Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Enterprises, the world's largest manufacturer, bottler, and distributor of Coke products, officially opened its $16 million Customer Development Center at Tulsa's Eastgate Metroplex.
The 60,000 square foot center, one of the first new tenants at the former mall in transformation to a mixed-use office and retail facility, currently employs 105 people. Company officials expect that number to increase to 300 employees within a year, making it the company's second largest center.
According to economic figures compiled by the Tulsa Metro Chamber, when fully staffed, the new center could lead to another 156 indirect jobs and a total annual economic impact of $18.4 million in income. The economic output, based on the values of its goods and services, could reach $36.7 million annually.
Employees at the new center provide customer service to clients in 13 western states. Most of the calls involve order replenishment and equipment service.
Coca-Cola Enterprises, which operates similar centers in Tampa, Fla., and Annapolis, Md., selected Tulsa from a list of 20 cities even though it falls outside of the company's service area, citing low costs, workforce availability, central location, and good working relationships between local and state officials.
