The site, which is expected to open later this month, will support approximately 50 employees in the areas of executive management, finance, human resources, law, investor relations and global marketing, according to the company.
The company selected the site on Patriot Boulevard in Glenview “after a very deliberate process that included the evaluation of a number of potentially suitable locations in the United States,” the company said in a news release. The state estimates that Mead Johnson’s investment in the site will total $10.4 million.
To help lure Mead Johnson to the Chicago area, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity put together a business assistance package totaling nearly $2.7 million in tax credits and exemptions through the Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) program, which is based on the state’s income tax collections on employee salaries during the next 10 years. The state also is offering $25,000 in job training assistance through the Employer Training Investment Program.
“In spite of a recession, we are working to create new jobs and to keep Illinois business strong,” said Warren Ribley, director designee of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. “This investment package will not only encourage growth, it will also put people to work. By investing in global companies like Mead Johnson, we are investing in the future of our state’s economy.”
Mead Johnson develops, manufactures, markets and distributes more than 70 products in 50 markets worldwide primarily under the “Enfa” family of brands, including Enfamil infant formula. The company successfully completed an initial public offering of common stock in February.
“Locating our corporate office in Glenview will give us the ability to access the new skills and talent we need to operate as a publicly traded company and enhance our effectiveness as a global growth company,” Mead Johnson President and CEO Stephen Golsby said.
Major business functions such as supply chain, R&D and information management, along with the U.S. sales and marketing teams, will stay at the company’s global operations center in Evansville, Ind., where approximately 1,300 of the company’s 5,300 global employees are based.
