The company noted that it chose Reno for its expansion because of the strategic transportation links to major Western markets and the area’s entrepreneurial business climate and skilled work force.
“The combination of the business and lifestyle amenities that Reno has to offer fits our company perfectly,” said Donald Hayden, CEO and founder of Scienceuticals.
The facility, which opened May 1 and will be operational by June 1, is capable of producing lotions, oils, hair-care products, cosmetics and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, according to the company.
Scienceuticals expects to add 25 jobs at the Reno facility by the end of the year. Some of the jobs being created include bench chemists, lab technicians and account managers, as well as administrative, shipping/receiving and production personnel, according to the company.
In three years, the company anticipates that the plant will be running at full capacity with more than 100 employees.
Chuck Alvey, president/CEO for the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, called the new facility “a real boon for our economy.”
“Not only is the company occupying 55,000 square feet, but it will employ 25 people in much-sought-after manufacturing jobs, which couldn’t come at a better time,” Alvey said. “The company selected Reno over other cities like Boise, Portland, Phoenix and Albuquerque, which speaks to Greater Reno-Tahoe’s competitive business climate and the company’s growth plans. Scienceuticals also falls right in line with the Target2010 plan for our region’s future growth in the advanced manufacturing sector.”
