Air Products plans to construct a new production facility in St. Charles in the St. Louis metro to increase manufacturing capacity of its full line of PRISM membrane products. The new facility will increase Air Products' membrane output by more than 50 percent, and it will provide for state-of-the-art hollow fiber production and module assembly technology across the full range of multiple PRISM-membrane offerings.
The new plant is expected to be operational early next year.
The company will continue to operate its current PRISM membrane production plant in St. Louis, which opened in 1984 and has been expanded several times since, most recently in 2007.
“This new facility will ensure our ability to meet the strong demand for high-performance membranes,” said George Lewis, global business manager of equipment sales for Air Products. “Membrane technology is being used increasingly in new and growing applications, and we will be positioned to meet that need with facilities capable of producing multiple size membrane product offerings.
“Locating near our existing facility will allow us to leverage our skilled work force and know-how to bring the facility into full production more quickly and efficiently,” he added.
The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) offered Air Products benefits under the Quality Jobs Act.
The Quality Jobs Act has worked to attract high-paying jobs that also provide health insurance for workers. Companies qualify if they pay at least average county wages and provide health coverage to their employees. Since its creation in 2005, the Quality Jobs Act has helped create nearly 22,000 jobs and retain 2,379 others.
“We appreciate the support of both the city of St. Charles and the DED in helping to make this project a reality,” Lewis pointed out.
