Fifty new jobs are planned within two to three years and 100 jobs within five years at the facility, said David Westrick, a spokesman for FedEx. He said the company will close a smaller center in Paducah and move most of its 40 employees to the new site.
The $4 million, 51,000 square foot building will be located just north of Interstate 24, less than 3 miles from a facility operated by chief competitor UPS.
The new building is part of a much larger expansion by FedEx, which plans to add about 280 facilities nationwide by 2011. FedEx Ground is a subsidiary of Memphis, Tenn.-based FedEx Corp.
