French automaker Renault and its Japan-based partner Nissan Motor recently announced plans to open a new business center in Chennai, India next year that will employ more than 1,500 workers by 2010.
The center, which will be a 50-50 joint venture between the two automakers, will support their global engineering, purchasing, design, cost management and information systems operations.
Renault, Nissan and Mahindra & Mahindra, an India-based vehicle manufacturer, are also building a $902 million (U.S.) factory together in Chennai.
