Delta T Corp., doing business as Big Ass Fans, recently announced the expansion of its headquarters in Lexington, Ky. The company, which designs and manufactures large ceiling fans, will invest $17.3 million and create 51 additional full-time jobs in the commonwealth within two years of completion.
Expansion plans include relocating from the current facility on Merchant Street to a new 240,000 square-foot facility on 25 acres in the Blue Grass Business Park on Georgetown Road. The company also has a facility on Winchester Road in Lexington.
The company manufactures 6- to 24-foot diameter ceiling fans that use their immense size, not speed, to move massive amounts of air over large spaces. Fans have been installed everywhere from airports to zoos worldwide. Even with a quirky name, the company’s product is grounded in science. Big Ass Fans won the 2006 Kentucky Manufacturer of the Year and 2006 World Trade Success Awards.
"Big Ass Fans has become a real economic force in Lexington and the state," said Carey Smith, president and chief executive officer of Big Ass Fans. "We appreciate the support from the state of Kentucky and Commerce Lexington in helping us to expand our presence."
The company currently employs 110 people at its Lexington headquarters and has grown steadily since its opening in 1999. Average hourly wages for the new 51 full-time employees will be approximately $25.27, exclusive of benefits.
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved Delta T. Corporation for tax benefits up to $1 million under the Kentucky Industrial Development Act, an incentive program designed to attract and expand manufacturing employment in the state.
