Responding to growing customer demand in the Bay area for integrated hosting and network services, SAVVIS, Inc., a global leader in IT infrastructure services for business applications, recently completed construction and officially opened a new data center in Santa Clara, Calif.
The new data center rovides approximately 50,000 square feet of raised floor space and offers customers up to 180 watts/square foot of conditioned power delivered by a five bus electrical system and backed up with uninterruptible power supplies and diesel generators.
To protect customers’ mission critical applications and data, SAVVIS’ Santa Clara data center integrates a full range of 24/7 physical security features including guards, video monitoring systems, vehicle blockades, and bulletproof glass and walls. Entrance pods and “man traps” along with a biometric entry system ensure that only fully authorized personnel are granted entry.
“Silicon Valley is home to some the most creative and innovative enterprises that are 100 percent focused on the products and services they deliver,” said Phil Koen, CEO of SAVVIS. “SAVVIS’ mission is to provide and manage the critical IT infrastructure that underpins their operations so they can maintain focus on their core business.”
The company is currently opening three additional new data centers in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and the New York-New Jersey area, and recently announced plans for two more data centers in Chicago and Boston that are expected to open in late 2007 and early 2008.
Including the new centers in Chicago and Boston, SAVVIS operates 29 data centers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia exceeding 1.3 million square feet of raised floor.
