Wisconsin economic development officials recently announced that the city of Waterloo will receive a $118,500 grant from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities and Economic Development (CDBG-PFED) program of the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to provide the infrastructure necessary to support a business expansion.
Briess Malt and Ingredients Co. is a leading manufacturer of specialty malts for the brewing, food, and pet food industries. In 1990, it was certified to produce organic ingredients. Briess plans on reopening shuttered plant in Waterloo, creating 10 full-time positions, retaining five full-time positions, and improving the plant at a cost of $1.4 million.
The city will use the grant to provide sanitary sewer service to the reopened plant. Total project cost is $1,590,000.
CDBG-PFED grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community buildings, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
