Mando America Corp. recently announced that it will expand their production lines and equipment in their existing facility here in Opelika, Ala. The expansion will represent an additional investment of $21 million and will create 77 additional new jobs, increasing Mando’s total investment in Opelika to $86 million and total employment to over 500 in the next three years.
Mando’s Opelika operations continue to produce brake corner modules, suspension modules and steering systems to support its customer base located throughout U.S., including Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama. Additional orders and an increased customer base has necessitated the need to expand production with new lines and increased products.
In the spring of 2003, Mando announced the location of their first North American manufacturing operation in Opelika’s Northeast Opelika Industrial Park. The project represented an investment of $30 million and the creation of 150 new jobs. Construction of the 150,000 square foot facility was completed in June of 2004.
Less than one year later, a second expansion added an additional $35 million in capital investment and 175,000 square feet of space, bringing the total size of the building to 325,000 square feet, as well as the relocation of their North American Headquarters from Detroit to Opelika.
“We have a great operation here in Opelika and feel that this addition will help us continue to grow our business and meet the increasing demand for Mando products here in Alabama and North America,” said Tae Kwak, president of Mando America.
