Leitner-Poma of America, Inc. recently announced its intention to construct a new manufacturing facility in Grand Junction, Colo. The company is a manufacturer of cable transportation systems and will combine with its sister company, Prinoth snowcat groomers.

L-POA has been operating in the Grand Junction community for over 25 years from a facility in Foresight Park.

The new facility will be built on 18 acres provided by Industrial Developments, Inc. (IDI) and infrastructure to the site will in part be provided with the assistance of the City of Grand Junction, Mesa County and the State Economic Development Commission who each approved $300,000 grants to assist with the project.

GJEP secured the grants through an agreement with L-POA to retain its existing 75 jobs in our community and add an additional 100 new jobs. Economic impact models show the return on investment to the community at $107 million in the first five years of operation.

The facilities for both L-POA and Prinoth will be two steel buildings totaling over 90,000 square feet in the Bookcliff Technology Park. Operations in the new facilities are scheduled to commence in late 2008 and will employ approximately 175 people at capacity. Capital investment in the new facility is estimated to be $15 million.

“The new facility will service L-POA’s and Prinoth’s clients from around the globe and will allow L-POA to significantly increase our manufacturing volume to meet the high demand for our existing unique products as well as for our entry into the wind generator market,” said Rick Spear, president of L-POA

The Bookcliff Technology Park Business Park is a planned development of approximately 35 acres, north of H Road, adjacent to the Grand Junction Regional Airport.
