Pennsylvania economic development officials recently announced awarded a $500,000 grant to the Greene County Industrial Development Authority for infrastructure costs related to the Waynesburg Crossing Shopping Center. The money represents the first-year allocation of a 10-year grant.

The $5 million total investment from the state of Pennsylvania will be distributed over 10 years and used to cover debt service on costs related to the construction of the more than 113-acre shopping center. Funding will be used for road construction, utility excavation and preparation, gas line preparation and waterline relocation, as well as sanitary line relocation and installation.

When complete, the complex will have two national retail anchor stores, restaurants and other shops that will complement existing retail facilities. The total project cost is estimated at more than $35 million and is expected to create 1,095 jobs.

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Fayette will receive an $813,572 grant every year for the next 10 years for infrastructure development on vacant land at the Fayette County Business Park in South Union Township. The development of the 58-acre site will result in the proposed Fayette Crossings, a new 445,000-square-foot retail complex consisting of one anchor tenant and multiple smaller retail and restaurant tenants.

Infrastructure and Facilities Improvement Program, or IFIP, funds will offset the costs associated with financing, mine remediation work and onsite infrastructure including waterlines, sanitary sewer lines and storm water sewer lines, paving and offsite roadway improvements. Nearly 1,230 new jobs are expected to be created by the $54 million project.

The IFIP program is a multi-year grant program that provides grants to assist with the payment of debt service for certain types of infrastructure and building projects. Eligible projects include costs incurred by infrastructure improvements, remediation, administrative expenses and preparation of plans and studies.
