Sara Lee Corp., a worldwide manufacturer and marketer of brand-name products for consumers, is constructing a distribution center and regional customer service center in the Highridge Business Park in Schuylkill County, Pa.
Sara Lee will build its new 182,000 square foot facility on a 40-acre site in Pottsville. The new building will feature cooler and freezer space, as well as a temperature-controlled shipping and receiving dock. The company will also construct a 15,000 square foot, two-story office building at the site.
As part of its $24 million project, Sara Lee will also make a significant equipment investment. The company expects the new distribution facility to be operational by October.
The Schuylkill Economic Development Corp., or SEDCO, worked with GAT and Sara Lee to help the company secure a $375,000 financial package offer from the Department of Community and Economic Development that includes a grant of up to $250,000 through the Opportunity Grant Program and up to $125,000 in Customized Job Training funds.
The company’s new facility will be located in a Keystone Opportunity Zone, a virtually tax-free zone that yields significant cost savings to companies.
