Quintiles Transnational Corp. will build a new facility on the Alba Campus in Livingston, Scotland, which will be the new home for its product development business, including Quintiles Laboratories and its NovaQuest group, according to Scottish Development International (SDI)t. As part of the plan, the company will also create an additional 150 jobs in Scotland during the next four years.

Quintiles Transnational is the largest life sciences contract research organization in the world, providing a broad range of professional services, and information and partnering solutions to the pharmaceutical, biotechnological and healthcare industries. The company has helped develop or commercialize every one of the world’s top 30 best-selling drugs.

“Our lab business is expanding, globally and in Europe, because of our proximity to clinical trial sites and our tight quality control,” said Graham Murray, general manager of Quintiles Laboratories Europe. “This new facility will enhance our level of customer service throughout the UK and Europe. I’d like to thank Scottish Development International and its parent organizations, the Scottish Executive and Scottish Enterprise, as well as West Lothian Council for their support in securing this project.”

The new project is being supported by a Regional Selective Assistance Grant of $2.49 million.

The new facility will initially be 104,000 square feet in scale, with around 80,000 square feet of this dedicated to laboratories business, though the company has the option to increase the facility by an additional 30 percent to accommodate future growth.

Quintiles’ new facility will be built at the Alba Campus in Livingston after the company purchased the site from Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian. The company’s move to Alba Campus will reinforce West Lothian’s emerging strengths in the life sciences sector and underline Alba Campus’ strategic role in attracting new investment and jobs to grow the West Lothian economy, according to SDI.
