The Baxter medical equipment company will invest $6.5 million (U.S.) in a sterilization plant using the latest “e-bean” technology. According to Chester Zelaya, general manager of Baxter Costa Rica, the plant will the first of its kind in Central America and will start operations in 2008, at the company’s manufacturing complex here.
With the new plant, Baxter will consolidate its Costa Rica production process, reducing delivery times of the finished product and facilitating direct exportation to further markets.
“The new plant reflects the company’s growth in Costa Rica,” said Edna Camacho, director general of the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency.
Baxter Costa Rica began operations 19 years ago and has 1,350 employees. Baxter also runs Baxter Americas Services, a Costa Rica-based financial transactions center for the United States and Puerto Rico.
