Seneca Foods to Expand Production Facility in Gillett, Wisconsin

GILLETT, Wis. (May 23, 2007) — The City of Gillett will receive $190,000 from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities and Economic Development program to provide the infrastructure necessary to support the business expansion.

The City of Gillett, Wis., will receive $190,000 from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities and Economic Development (CDBG-PFED) program of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce to provide the infrastructure necessary to support a business expansion of 146,000 square feet for Seneca Foods Corp.

Seneca Food Corp. was established in 1949 and has 965 full time Wisconsin employees. The company is expanding its facilities in Gillett, Wis., in order to store all of its products at site in Gillett. The grant will be used for road and utility relocation to accommodate the expansion.

The project will retain 35 jobs, and create three additional jobs. Total project cost is $6,673,980.

CDBG-PFED grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community buildings, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
