IBM recently announced its decision to locate a new customer call center in Daleville, Ind., creating 500 new jobs. The new center, which will serve the company’s new and existing business customers, will locate in the former Burlington Motor Carriers facility near Interstate 69 later this year.
The $2.9 million project is part of the commitment by IBM and its partners to create 1,000 new jobs and bring new investment to Indiana following their selection to lead the modernization of state’s welfare eligibility system.
The new center is in addition to the 1,500 people being hired by IBM and its partners to modernize the computer services of the Family and Social Services Administration. IBM’s additional commitments are to upgrade the supercomputer located at Indiana University and create a technology design center at Indiana University Purdue University in Indianapolis.
IBM will initially hire 200 people to start the new center later this year and add 300 more to the call center by 2010. The company and its partners also plan to hire an additional 500 employees throughout the state over the next three years. The company has not yet determined where those 500 employees will be located.
"Daleville offers many of the things that make an area an attractive place for us to live and work, such as an excellent pool of skilled, qualified applicants, and nearby Ball State University provides outstanding cultural and higher education opportunities," said Olivette Whipple, vice president of global integrated customer relationship management for IBM.
The Town of Daleville and Delaware County provided the company more than $419,000 in incentives to encourage the company to locate here. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered no financial incentives.
