Japan-based Keihin Corp., through its North American subsidiary Keihin Indiana Precision Technology Inc., will build a new, $22 million manufacturing facility in the Capac, Mich. The plant will create 570 new jobs, including 260 directly by the company.
The Michigan Economic Growth Authority Board today approved a Single Business Tax credit valued at more than $3 million over 11 years. The MEDC will also provide up to $350,000 through the Community Development Block Grant program to provide public infrastructure improvements needed for the facility. The village of Capac is also considering a 12-year abatement estimated at $2.3 million to support the project.
“The state of Michigan has a great community of people and industrial infrastructure,” Keihin Corp. Director in North America and KIPT President Masashi Matsuo said. “These two resources coupled with this location will successfully meet the demand of multiple customer locations.”
KIPT manufactures and supplies air and fuel management systems, HVAC systems and electronic control systems. The company sells its products to Honda of America Mfg. Inc. and its affiliates primarily in the United States and Canada.
The new plant in Capac, Keihin Michigan Manufacturing LLC, will be the Keihin Corporation’s fourth U.S. plant. The 120,000 square foot facility will produce approximately 680,000 intake manifold assemblies and 200,000 HVAC systems annually and will enable the company to respond to Honda’s increase in capacity in the North American market.
The facility will adopt a flexible and consistent manufacturing line and an environmentally-friendly concept with the most updated layout design of all Keihin’s North American plants. The facility is expected to begin operation in the fall of 2008.
