Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development LLC, or J&JPRD, recently announced a $181 million project that will expand the company’s laboratory and office facility here. The company has committed to creating 120 new jobs in Montgomery County over the next three years with this expansion.
The facility will provide the company with an additional 150,000 square feet of new laboratory, clinical development and office space, and will serve as its East Coast hub for discovery research and early clinical development upon completion in 2009. As part of its expansion project, J&JPRD will also retain 680 existing jobs.
“This expansion demonstrates our commitment to, and support of, research and development as a critical component of our future success,” said Joseph C. Scodari, Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals’ worldwide chairman. “More than 15 important new products have been discovered or developed here, including several of our company’s major prescription medicines, and we intend to continue building on that tradition for many more years to come.
The Jonas Salk Legacy Fund makes way for new investments in the state’s medical and bioscience research work. Through a matching grant program, the fund will attract world-class researchers to Pennsylvania by fueling the expansion of bioscience laboratories, incubators and research parks, and help academic medical centers and research institutions nurture entrepreneurship in the life sciences—all at no cost to taxpayers.
The Montgomery County Industrial Development Corp. worked with the Governor’s Action Team and J&JPRD to help the company secure a $2,275,000 funding package offer that includes a grant of up to $1.25 million through the Infrastructure Development Program, a grant of up to $400,000 through the Opportunity Grant Program, $125,000 in Customized Job Training funds, and $500,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits.
