Seissenschmidt Corp., the North American subsidiary of Germany-based Seissenschmidt-Group, recently announced that it will invest an initial $1.3 million to locate its new North American headquarters at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, Mich. The project will create 152 new jobs.
The Michigan Economic Growth Authority board today approved a Single Business Tax credit valued at $516,000 over seven years. The MEDC will provide a Community Development Block Grant to assist with building improvements. In addition to Wurtsmith’s current tax-free Renaissance Zone designation, Oscoda Township has proposed a low-cost lease worth $130,000 annually to support the project.
“Seissenschmidt Corporation is very excited about establishing our manufacturing facility in Oscoda, Michigan,” company President Urs Schaffluetzel said. “The people on the local and state level have been very helpful to make this happen. Although the state of North Carolina has presented us with a very attractive offer, we have decided to locate our first manufacturing facility outside of Europe in Michigan. The main reason for this decision is the proximity to our customer base.”
The Seissenschmidt-Group’s forged precision components are used in powertrain and driveline technology by the world’s leading automotive manufacturers and system suppliers. Seissenschmidt Corporation was formed in 2001 as the group’s North American sales organization.
