Texas-based McLane Co. recently announced that it will soon begin construction on a 400,000 square foot grocery distribution facility in the Valley View Business Park in Jessup, Pa., eventually creating 500 new jobs at the new location.
The company will serve as the anchor tenant for the park’s phase II project. McLane expects to soon begin construction and hopes to occupy the building by June 2008, with all 500 new positions filled within three years.
McLane’s new distribution center will provide grocery distribution services for convenience store chains, mass merchandisers and drug stores in the mid-Atlantic region. The new facility will give McLane a total of 20 grocery division distribution centers in 18 states.
The distribution center will be located in a Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone, which entitles the company to certain tax benefits. KOEZs work to turn a community’s abandoned, unused, underutilized land and buildings into thriving business districts.
“Jessup was selected after a comprehensive search that included the consideration of multiple sites in the region,” said Mike Youngblood, president of McLane Grocery Distribution.
The company will receive a $525,000 funding package offer that includes a grant of up to $300,000 through the opportunity grant program and up to $225,000 in customized job training funds. The company’s total investment in the project will be $60 million.
McLane Company Inc. provides distribution services throughout the United States, delivering food and non-food products to more than 60,000 customer locations. Headquartered in Texas, the company operates 19 grocery distribution divisions and 18 foodservice distribution centers, as well as an industry specific software company.
