AEG Elektrofotografie GmbH, a Germany-based company, announced further expansion of its state-of-the-art photoreceptor manufacturing facility here.
The facility, originally opened in 2005, focuses primarily on production of the OPC printer drums and because of the unique and flexible design of the AEG-built proprietary production equipment, other OPC drum types and designs can easily be added in the future. A new production line was added for substantially increased production capacity and additional space is available for further expansions.
The U.S. OPC manufacturing facility, located in Hamilton, Ohio, ceased production operations last year. All necessary production equipment and other key apparatus in Ohio had been relocated to China.
The AEG North American sales and distribution center will continue to be staffed and supported with local sales, technical, and administrative staff in Ohio, along with on-site inventory to accommodate all North American customer requirements.
“We will continue to support our customers’ needs for OPC printer drums and other products by sourcing volume quantities from our production sites in Europe and Asia,” said Manfred Wagner, managing director of AEG.
Wagner cited changes in the global industry as the reason for the shift to Asia.
“While the Ohio plant has been a mainstay to our business for a number of years, changes in global competition and in the U.S. marketplace necessitate this change,” he pointed out. “This action has allowed AEG to stay cost competitive in OPC manufacturing, while also allowing us to remain a major participant in the worldwide markets, with growing market share.”
