Maaguzi, a clinical research software provider, recently announced it will consolidate its North American operations, closing its North Carolina offices and bringing 42 new high-tech jobs to Carmel, Ind. The company will produce and host its Internet-driven clinical trial data management system in leased office space along Carmel’s Meridian corridor.

Maaguzi’s software allows patients and medical professionals participating in clinical trials to enter data online, allowing for real-time feedback and online reporting of study results. That streamlined reporting, according to company officials, allows trial sponsors to focus on managing the study and not having to manage data from the several systems that are in use in the industry today.

”Our decision to expand in Indiana was influenced by our continued confidence that we can find the talent needed to support our clients and enhance our technology,” said Raul Zavaleta, interim chief executive of Maaguzi. “Additionally, we are developing strategic partnerships with other local companies that strengthen our offering, and both of these advantages will accelerate our growth objectives.”

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered the company $175,000 in tax credits and $18,500 in training grants to encourage the company to locate in Indiana.

Maaguzi’s decision to choose Indiana marks the third life sciences announcement this year in Central Indiana. Earlier this month U.K-based Oxford BioSignals Medical announced its plans to locate its global life science headquarters in Carmel, bringing 120 new high-tech jobs to the Indianapolis suburb. In January, Beckman Coulter announced it would relocate its California-based life sciences operations to Carmel, bringing with it 212 new high-tech jobs.

Indiana is home to a $13.6B global life sciences industry that includes such life science leaders as Eli Lilly and Company, Cook, Inc., Roche Diagnostics and Dow AgroSciences. Battelle Memorial Institute named Indiana one of the nation’s top four life science leaders in terms of the number and concentration of life science jobs in 2006.
