Eaton Corp. said it has begun building a truck transmission and parts plant here, near the city of Pune, east of Mumbai.

Pune is the site of Eaton's other Indian factory, focused on hydraulics systems.

Production at the new factory will serve both India's growing heavy-transportation industry and the export market, according to the company.

Cleveland-based Eaton plans for the plant to be operating by the end of this year.
