Hanson Logistics recently announced plans to develop a 135,000 square foot cold storage facility in Hobart, Ind. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-third quarter of 2007. Future phases will bring the total building size to approximately 350,000 square feet.
Hanson Logistics is a leading third-party provider of temperature-controlled logistics. Based in the Midwest, Hanson operates the 13th largest refrigerated warehouse network in the country. Hanson has seven facilities in Michigan and Indiana.
The new facility, which broke ground on January 19, is located on 21 acres within Becknell Development’s NorthWind Crossings in Hobart, Ind. Hanson recently closed on the land transaction. The new facility will be known as Hanson’s Chicago Consolidation Center.
Cindy Bischof, SIOR, and Richard Daly, SIOR, Principal, both of Darwin Realty, represented Hanson in the build-to-suit transaction. Christopher Gary, Broker, with Darwin Realty, represented Becknell Development, owner of NorthWind Crossings.
It was a competitive selection process between Indiana and Illinois, Bischof said. Hanson was drawn to and ultimately selected Hobart, Indiana for a variety of very important logistical and operational reasons, including accessibility to I-80 and rail service, as well as the aggressive incentive package offered.”
Full time employment at the new facility is anticipated to be reach 40 teammates over a 24-month period.
The state of Indiana granted an incentive package to the company, according to James Staton, Director, Northwest Region of IEDC. In addition, the City of Hobart granted ten-year real and personal property tax abatements for the initial building and its eligible equipment, as well as abatement for two future additions and their equipment.
Headquartered in St. Joseph, Mich., Hanson Logistics is a leading provider of temperature-controlled supply chain management services, and is the 13th largest public refrigerated warehouse network in the country, with seven facilities totaling 29,031,000 cubic feet of deep frozen, refrigerated and dry warehousing space. That number will increase to 34,000,000 cubic feet with the completion of Phase I of the Chicago Consolidation Center.
