Alexandria, Va.,-based Landon IP Inc. will invest $3.9 million to open new offices in Southfield, Mich., creating 299 new jobs.
The MEDC approved a Single Business Tax credit valued at $2.1 million over five years. The city of Southfield has proposed a seven-year tax abatement valued at $68,000 to support the project.
“I think Michigan is America’s best-kept secret,” Landon IP CEO David Hunt said. “Landon IP had the opportunity to open a major office in several states and in India, but we wanted to be located near world-class engineers and scientists. We are pleased to hire from among the best educated and experienced workforce in the world, and we expect to be in Michigan for a long time.”
Landon IP Inc. specializes in professional patent and trademark searches, patent analytics and business intelligence. The company monitors patents, trademarks, corporations, inventors, industries and provides technical consulting to global corporations and law firms.
The company currently has 110 employees serving more than 9,000 clients. In 2006, it was one of only two companies awarded a major contract by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) to conduct patent searches and initial patent examinations for the agency.
