A $500,000 Idaho Community Development Block Grant has enabled the city of Blackfoot, Idaho, to preserve 36 jobs and create another 26 at a local cheese plant.
The grant, made through Idaho Commerce & Labor, financed modifications and improvements to the city sewer system that enabled Sartori Foods to maintain and expand its cheese processing operation in the city.
The city pledged $31,000 to the project, and the Wisconsin-based company is providing $3.3 million in private investment to expand the facility. All jobs pay above Bingham county’s median income of $21,485 a year and provide medical and retirement benefits.
Sartori Foods, a family-owned company founded in 1939, produces specialty, Mexican and aged Italian cheeses at five plants in Wisconsin and Idaho.
