Advanced Coating Technologies recently announced its intention to invest $60 million in new machinery, equipment and building and expand its manufacturing operation to include a new 86,000 square foot building on a parcel adjoining its existing 21,500 square foot facility in Wallkill, N.Y.
ACT is a joint venture of Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. company, and Chromalloy, a business unit of Sequa Corp. The project is expected to create 81 jobs by 2011 and retain 35 existing jobs.
Advanced Coating Technologies was formed in 1992 and provides Pratt & Whitney with thermal barrier coatings on high pressure turbine airfoils for both commercial and military engines. The company’s products are used for original as well as replacement aircraft engine equipment.
Chromalloy Gas Turbine Corp., headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, specializes in the repair and manufacture of high pressure turbine components of aircraft and industrial gas turbine engines. Sequa Corporation, based in New York, is a diversified manufacturer whose other principal businesses serve the industrial machinery, metal coating, specialty chemicals and automotive markets.
Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies provides high-technology products and services to the aerospace and building industries.
“I’m excited about the expansion of our successful joint venture with Chromalloy,” said Mike Pcholinski, Vice President of Pratt & Whitney’s Turbine Airfoil Business. “The increased capacity will allow us to consolidate certain production operations within our airfoil supply chain to achieve cost savings by eliminating non-value added expenses.”
“Since its inception, ACT has established a strong tradition of excellence in service and quality. This expansion will allow us to build on that tradition, and we are enthusiastic about the future of our partnership with Pratt and Whitney,” said Chris Richardson, vice chairman and chief executive officer of Chromalloy Gas Turbine.
In consideration of its commitment to New York State, Advanced Coating Technologies is eligible to apply to Empire State Development for a Capital Grant of up to $500,000 for reimbursement of a portion of costs associated with machinery and equipment acquisition and installation.
