Aerospace Products International, Inc. (API), a wholly-owned subsidiary of First Aviation Services Inc. and the leading provider of innovative distribution and supply chain services for the aviation industry, recently opened a new 172,000 square foot distribution center in Southaven, Miss., just 2.5 miles from the Memphis International Airport and the FedEx Express hub.
This new facility, which features 40 percent more cubic volume per square foot, air-conditioning, and 45 candle watt lighting, consolidates services previously provided by four warehouse facilities, thus optimizing shipping and receiving functions and allowing Operations to function more effectively and efficiently in servicing our customers.
The Warehouse has a linear flow design with 21 Receiving docks on the East side of the building, including a courtesy ramp for unloading small package carrier trucks and loading vehicles for Will-Call orders. The 21 Shipping docks on the West side offer floor height ramps to load or off-load flatbed trailers inside the building, providing protection from the weather.
One important feature of the building is the state-of-the-art Hazardous materials, corrosives, and aerosol rooms, with in-rack sprinkler systems and specially designed pallet storage. Other additions include carousels, conveyors and flexible IT connections that will allow for expansion and re-configuration to accommodate growth.
API’s corporate offices, as well as API Technologies, will remain at 3778 Distriplex Drive North in Memphis, Tenn., a short distance from the new facility.
