General Motors recently announced that it will invest more than $300 million to upgrade its manufacturing plant in Tonawanda, retaining at least 1,350 full-time permanent jobs over five years.

General Motors’ investment will include $279 million to acquire machinery, $21 million for infrastructure and site work and $1.5 million to train employees.

As part of the agreement, GM will receive $5 million in subsidies. The state incentives include a $3.5 million direct ESDC grant for the purchase and installation of the machinery. The remaining $1.5 million will come from a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority grant for the installation of energy efficient lighting and equipment and assistance from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to consolidate multiple, existing hydropower contract job commitments.
