IJS Global Inc., an air and ocean freight forwarder and non-vessel operating common carrier, said it has entered the Latin American market by launching operations in Brazil.
The first company-owned office here offers a full range of transportation logistics solutions. The launch is the first step in a planned expansion for IJS Global in Brazil and across Latin America.
Luiz Figueira, a 15-year logistics veteran, will head IJS Global’s Latin American operations, which includes full responsibility for Brazil. Until recently, Figueira was Brazil country manager for a leading competitor. Before that, he spent four years in Brazil working for EGL Inc. and 10 years for the former Air Express International Corp. (AEI). In his new role, he reports to John Gallahan, president and CEO, Asia-Pacific and Americas.
“I joined IJS because of the challenge of starting on the ground floor with our company,” Figueira said. “I also wanted to work for an organization that is focused on one-on-one, personalized customer service, a quality that seems to have been lost amidst the mergers and consolidations that have created very large, impersonal companies.
“In Latin America, everything in our business revolves around relationships,” Figueira said. “All companies doing business here, regardless of their size, expect a high level of personal service where your provider is also your personal partner. That is the type of service that will make IJS successful in Latin America, and it is why I came aboard.”
In recent weeks, IJS Global has expanded operations in Asia, launched a continent-wide European network and began operations on the Indian sub-continent.
