Exel, Inc., a North American contract logistics provider, has leased a recently completed 402,500 square foot speculative building in the Roanoke section of AllianceTexas. The facility will be utilized by Exel as the exclusive North American distribution center for its customer, Lego Systems, Inc., one of the world's leading manufacturers of play materials for children.

Lego Systems, Inc., the North American division of the LEGO Group, recently announced a partnership with Exel Inc. for distribution of Lego products to retailers in the U.S. and Canada.

"Key factors in Exel selecting the AllianceTexas facility are its location within the Foreign Trade Zone and its proximity to Interstate 35W," said Tony Femia, director of leasing for Exel Inc. "This AllianceTexas location also allows Exel the ability to continue to maximize and exchange our resources at our existing facilities in the development."

Including this new facility, Exel operates close to two million square feet at AllianceTexas. Its customers consist of a number of global industry leaders, including General Mills and Lego Systems, Inc.

“Critical to selecting a distribution partner was identifying someone with the proven experience in delivering world-class service in order to maintain logistical convenience, simplicity and quality for our retail partners,” said Roger Vogt, senior director supply chain, Lego Systems. “At the same time, we needed proximity to our customers, to our new production facility in Mexico, to our new fulfillment partner for direct-to-consumer orders, and to our North American headquarters in Connecticut. Exel’s history of serving world-class brands, technical expertise and location made them the perfect choice for optimizing our business needs.”

Exel will be operational at its new location in January 2007 and will employ 50 workers in the facility.
