Dakota Vinyl, a manufacturer of plastic lumber products, is locating its operations to Madison, S.D. The business is expected to hire 35 employees in its first year of operation, and 80 by the year 2008.
Dakota Vinyl’s plastic lumber products are manufactured using an advanced process called co-extrusion. A raw material compound is forced through a die to shape it to the desired profile. The end product has a wood tone appearance that will be sold throughout the United States and used as decking, fencing and railing.
Madison’s accessible location will be an asset for Dakota Vinyl. The business will be located in a 37,500 square foot facility set on a spur of the BNSF Railway Co., a subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. Raw materials for the plastic lumber products will arrive on the railroad, and the final product shipped by trucking.
