Japan-based Funai Electric Co. will invest 7 billion yen ($56 million U.S.) in a factory here that will produce liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions.

Construction of the factory is expected to be completed by next year, with the facility being developed progressively until 2008, according to PAIiIZ, the Polish government agency for foreign investment.

The factory will initially provide jobs for 500 people, with the number doubling once the facility is fully developed. The plant is expected to have a production capacity of 200,000 flat-screen televisions per month, most of them destined for the European market.
