The city of Hudson, Mich., recently received a $1 million grant from the state of Michigan to support a Hi-Lex Manufacturing expansion that is expected to create 100 new jobs. The company is investing more than $26.8 million in its Hudson and Litchfield facilities, thanks in part to a Single Business Tax credit approved by the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
The grant is being made available by the MEDC with funds provided by the federal Community Development Block Grant program. The award will be used to construct a new water tower and public road, water and sewer improvements in the city’s industrial park. The city will contribute about $300,000 to the project.
Hi-Lex Controls was founded in 1989. The U.S. parent, TSK of America, is owned by Hi-Lex Corp., a global company based in Takarazuka City, Japan. Hi-Lex Controls currently employs approximately 650 at its Hudson and Litchfield facilities. The company also employs more than 80 engineers and sales staff at its technical center in Troy.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation administers the state’s Community Development Block Grant funds received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These funds are used to provide grants and loans to eligible counties, cities, villages and townships—typically those with populations less than 50,000 — for economic development, community development and housing projects. Larger communities receive block grant funds directly from the federal government.
