ACCO Brands Corp.’s 570,000 square foot expansion at the company’s facility in Booneville, Miss., will add more than 300 new jobs and enhance efficiencies.
The $55 million project includes three new buildings totaling 570,000 square feet, and major renovations to existing buildings to improve productivity. When the project is complete, ACCO Brands will occupy 748,000 square feet in total.
The company currently employs more than 500 people in Booneville. That number will grow to approximately 850 employees working in distribution, manufacturing and customer service functions when the expansion is completed in 2008.
ACCO Brands cited lower operating costs, reduced shipping costs and greater proximity to customers among the reasons for choosing Mississippi for this major, state-of-the-art expansion.
In addition, ACCO officials acknowledged at the announcement that Gov. Barbour’s continued persistence and involvement in the project was a major factor in the decision. The company will close two manufacturing facilities in Illinois and Mexico, relocating some manufacturing to the expanded Booneville facility.
