Backyard Storage Solutions LLC plans to expand its Michigan operations by opening a new manufacturing, distribution and administrative facility in Monroe that will replace the company’s smaller facility in Warren. Backyard Storage Solutions will invest more than $5 million to purchase and equip the new facility. The project will create 140 new jobs.
The Michigan EDC approved a Single Business Tax credit valued at $561,000 over seven years to help win the company’s investment. The city of Monroe is considering an eight-year tax abatement valued at $81,000 to support the project.
“We are excited to relocate to Monroe and keep our business in Michigan, with the assistance from the MEDC,” Backyard Storage Solutions LLC CEO Thomas van der Meulen said. “Our final location selection was based on finding the right facility located in a great transportation corridor, having access to a solid labor pool, and the right incentive package from the MEDC. Putting aside all the negative news we hear so frequently, Michigan still has a lot to offer to growing, smaller and middle market companies. We are part of Michigan's future.”
