Toronto-based AGS Automotive Systems plans to invest in capital and equipment to expand its automotive parts assembly and other manufacturing capabilities by reopening a facility in Sterling Heights, Mich. The project will create 242 new jobs, including 130 directly by the company.
The MEDC approved a Single Business Tax credit valued at more than $576,000 over six years, while the city of Sterling Heights has approved a nine-year tax abatement worth $357,000 to support the project.
An economic analysis conducted by the MEDC estimates that increased economic activity created by the expansion will generate an additional 112 indirect Michigan jobs, in addition to the 130 created directly by the company. The project is expected to generate more than $56 million in personal income for Michigan workers over the life of the tax credit.
AGS’ investment cements and expands the company’s presence in the state of Michigan,” AGS Automotive Systems Director of Tax and Pension Winston Woo said. “Our planned initiatives would allow us to increase productivity and strengthen our competitive advantage. This has been made possible by the dedication and support from the city and state governments that have worked so hard and aggressively to attract new automotive investments.”
