BASF Announces $100 Million Facility Relocation to Michigan

WYANDOTTE, Mich. (October 27, 2006) — The MEDC approved an employment Single Business Tax credit valued at more than $5.5 million over 10 years.

BASF Corp. plans to invest in excess of $100 million to relocate the R&D, administrative and manufacturing operations of recently acquired Johnson Polymer to Wyandotte, Mich., from Wisconsin. The new facility is expected to create 648 new jobs.

The MEDC approved an employment Single Business Tax credit valued at more than $5.5 million over 10 years. An additional $15 million brownfield Single Business Tax credit was offered to help BASF decontaminate and prepare the property for construction of the new facility.

The city of Wyandotte is also considering local tax abatements totaling approximately $35 million over 20 years to support the project.

New Jersey-based BASF Corp. was formed in 1986 and is the North American affiliate of Germany-based BASF AG, one of the world’s leading chemical companies. The company produces a wide range of products from chemicals, plastics and agricultural products to crude oil and natural gas. In 1969, BASF acquired Wyandotte Chemical Corporation in Wyandotte. BASF currently employs approximately 94,000 worldwide including 16,000 in North America and 2,000 in Michigan.
