Germany-based Karmann Manufacturing LLC plans to invest $22 million in its Plymouth facility. The expansion is expected to create 735 new jobs, including 375 directly by the company.
The MEDC approved a Single Business Tax credit valued at more than $4.1 million over 10 years and has offered a $212,500 Economic Development Job Training grant. The Charter Township of Plymouth has approved a 10-year tax abatement valued at approximately $261,000 to support the project.
“This new facility will add to our existing manufacturing base in Michigan,” Karmann USA, Inc. Senior Vice President & COO of Timothy J. Olind said. “We are pleased with the MEDC and the cooperation they afforded us in making this project a reality.”
Founded in 1996, Karmann USA Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wilhelm Karmann GmbH which is headquartered in Osnabrueck, Germany. In December 2003 Karman manufacturing was formed as the manufacturing arm of Karmann USA. The company manufactures both hard- and soft-top convertible roof systems for General Motors and DaimlerChrysler. Karmann USA and its affiliates currently employ 323 workers in Michigan.
