Embraer Aircraft Holding, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Brazilian corporation Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica S.A., has selected Bradley International Airport as the future location of its Northeast service center. The $11 million project will create 60 jobs.
The company will construct and operate a new full service maintenance repair and overhaul facility in support of their growing line of executive jet aircraft. Several Northeast airports were considered as the potential future home for Embraer's new operation.
The state's proposed assistance for the project includes a $1.2 million loan for machinery and equipment (which will require State Bond Commission approval) and up to $15,000 in matching funds for training from the Department of Economic and Community Development.
For its part, the Department of Transportation is providing a sales and use tax exemption on construction materials, a real property tax abatement, and will assist the company by securing a $500,000 grant to construct a taxiway that will serve Embraer and other potential users.
“We are very pleased to announce the selection of Bradley International Airport as the site of one of Embraer´s new service centers exclusive for Executive Aviation,” said Maurício Botelho, Embraer Chairman, President and CEO. “We are confident that our customers in the Northeast will enjoy its strategic location, ample facilities and premium services.”
Embraer has 37 years of experience in designing, manufacturing, selling and supporting aircraft for the global airline, defense and business aviation markets. Embraer had a total work force of 18,336 people.
