Ahlstrom, a Finland-based company specializing in fiber-based materials, today announced plans to start manufacturing operations in Bishopville, S.C., investing $16 million and creating 100 jobs. The company will utilize an existing 116,260 square foot facility at the I-20 Industrial Center in Bishopville, and begin production in early 2007.
Ahlstrom is a global leader in the development, manufacture and marketing of high performance fiber-based materials used in a large variety of everyday products, such as filters, wipes, flooring, labels, and tapes. The fast growing specialty glass reinforcement markets, particularly in wind energy, marine and transportation industries, and the attractiveness of South Carolina’s business environment have created a great opportunity for Ahlstrom to grow in our state.
“Ahlstrom continues to expand operations in North America due to the growth potential in specialty reinforcements and filtration, and we believe that the state of South Carolina offers us a competitive platform in an ideal location”, says Jukka Moisio, President and CEO of Ahlstrom Corporation.
