Adams Products Co. has agreed to purchase almost half of the land in Dunn's Edgerton Industrial Park, Phase II, in Edgerton, N.C., in order to expand its concrete block manufacturing capabilities.
The company is purchasing 42 acres there at a total cost of $650,000. Officials plan to construct two buildings, a 100,000 square foot manufacturing facility plus 20,000 square feet of office space. The project will bring 20 new jobs and $20 million in tax base to the county.
"We expect to begin construction there within the next six months," said Butch Hardy, President of Adams Products Co., a subsidiary of Oldcastle APG South, an international supplier and manufacturer of building materials. "With the site's access to Interstate 95 and local leaders' help in improving the railway spur, the Edgerton property will be a great addition to our growing number of facilities."
The 60-year-old company already has 14 manufacturing, distribution and sales facilities throughout North and South Carolina. This new manufacturing plant is part of an expansion program required because of increases in business, officials said.
"Local and county officials were very helpful and encouraging about our expansion there," said Hardy.
County and Dunn city leaders have been working with company officials to make sure the property serves the needs of Adams Products and nearby companies. For example, county commissioners recently committed to assisting the state Department of Transportation to create a rail spur to Edgerton Industrial Park and have worked to secure a Community Development Block Grant from the N.C. Department of Commerce, plus funding through the N.C. Rural Center. Improvements involve upgrades to the infrastructure, including water, sewer and fire protection in the area.
Because such improvements are important to companies looking to move or expand, work like this has been a priority for Harnett County's Economic Development Commission (EDC), officials said.
The Edgerton Industrial Park is part of 390 acres in Harnett County that are "certified," with permitting and surveying hurdles already cleared. Only one other county in the Research Triangle Regional Partnership of 13 counties can offer so many different sites that are certified and ready for industry to develop.
