Family Farms, Inc. will invest approximately $4.4 million to acquire the assets of Boice Brothers Dairy in Kingston, N.Y., and will partner with local dairy farms to produce hormone free, organically-developed fluid milk. The project, located in the Kingston-Ulster Empire Zone, is expected to create 70 new jobs over two years and retain 21 existing jobs. The company will be doing business locally as Hudson Valley Family Farms.

“This venture will be both publicly and privately profitable,” said Gerard N. von Dohlen, President, Newark Refrigerated Warehouse. “Hopefully, it will represent a model for other New York State agricultural products and provide an efficient and effective distribution system giving the farmer a larger portion of the retail selling price.”

In consideration of its commitment to New York State, Family Farms, Inc. is eligible to apply to Empire State Development for a Capital Grant of up to $250,000 to be used as reimbursement for a portion of working capital expenditures. Additionally, the company is eligible to receive Empire Zone benefits estimated at $1,201,875 in wage ($537,375), investment ($267,000) and employment incentive tax credits ($397,350).
