Ferguson, the nation’s largest distributor of plumbing, heating, cooling and pipe products, has announced plans to construct a 96,000 square-foot complex on a 41-acre site in Charlotte, N.C. The anticipated completion date is March 2007.

“This will be the main branch of our Charlotte operations for our plumbing division which includes three main groups: mechanical, builder sales and commercial/residential as well as our large retail showroom,” said Craig Montgomery, Ferguson’s general manager for the Charlotte area. “This new facility will serve as a hub, giving us the capability to expand to as many as 20 locations in the Charlotte market within the next five years.”

Ferguson’s current location is near the new transit line. The property was sold to a developer, prompting Ferguson to conduct a comprehensive regional search for another location. In working with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the company chose the site that had previously been a truck terminal.

The branch’s existing 81 employees will move to the new location, with the expectation of adding another 50 to its staff over the next three years.

Ferguson has sales of around $7.1 billion and 22,000 employees in approximately 1,300 service centers located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.
