Hi-Lex Controls Inc. will invest $26.8 million to expand its operations in Hudson and Litchfield, Mich. The project will create 395 new jobs, including 208 directly by the company. Assistance offered through the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
The MEDC approved a Single Business Tax credit valued at more than $1.2 million over seven years and a $120,000 Economic Development Job Training grant to help win the company’s investment. The cities of Hudson and Litchfield have proposed 12-year tax abatements totaling $2.2 million to support the project.
An economic analysis conducted by the MEDC estimates that increased economic activity created by the expansions will generate an additional 187 indirect Michigan jobs, in addition to the 208 created directly by the company. The project is expected to generate more than $122 million in personal income for Michigan workers over the life of the tax credit.
Hi-Lex Controls will manufacture door modules for DaimlerChrysler in Hudson and window regulators for Ford Motor Company in Litchfield. Approximately 163 jobs will be created at the company’s Hudson facility and 45 at Litchfield.
“We believe that Tier one automotive suppliers can be competitive in Michigan when business, state and local governments work together for the common cause of maintaining and creating jobs,” said John Flack, director of finance for Hi-Lex Controls. “These continuing partnerships will help ensure a bright employment future in Michigan.”
Hi-Lex Controls was founded in 1989. The U.S. parent, TSK of America, is owned by Hi-Lex Corporation, a global company based in Takarazuka City, Japan. Hi-Lex Controls currently employs approximately 650 at its Hudson and Litchfield facilities. The company also employs more than 80 engineers and sales staff at its technical center in Troy.
