Economic Development Officials Announce Nearly $2.2 Million in Job Training Incentives to Seven New Mexico Companies

SANTA FE, N.M. (September 19, 2006) — JTIP provides for classroom or on-the-job training, reimbursing an expanding or relocating business for 50 to 70 percent of a trainee’s wages for as long as six months.

New Mexico’s Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) Board approved $2,192,644 in funds, creating 427 new jobs for seven Albuquerque-area companies.

This month’s recipients are:

Bueno Foods, Albuquerque – A manufacturer of Mexican foods; $92,307 for 11 new jobs.

InSync, Albuquerque—An optics manufacturer; $25,454 for 2 new jobs.

Ricobone, Albuquerque—A manufacturer of landscaping brick; $22,218 for 3 new jobs.

SatWest, Albuquerque—A satellite communications systems company; $42,147 for 3 new jobs.

Senspex, Rio Rancho – A manufacturer of chemical identification systems; $51,514 for 4 new jobs.

Verizon, Albuquerque—A wireless communications customer support center; $1,937,900 for 402 new jobs and training for Verizon employees.

Z-Tech, Albuquerque- A manufacturer of test instrumentation; $21,104 for 2 new jobs.

JTIP is one of the most flexible and competitive job-training incentive packages in the country. It provides for classroom or on-the-job training, reimbursing an expanding or relocating business for 50 to 70 percent of a trainee’s wages for as long as six months.

The Job Training Incentive Program, formerly known as the In-Plant Training Program, reimburses qualified economic-based companies for a significant portion of training costs associated with job creation.

To qualify, new or expanding companies must either create a product in New Mexico, or provide a non-retail service with 50 percent of the company’s customer and revenue base outside the state. The eligible jobs must be full- time and year-round.

The trainee must be a new hire to the company and have been a New Mexico resident for at least one continuous year at any time prior to being hired.
