Advanced Communications Agency Inc. recently announced that it build a 215,000-square-foot printing plant on a brownfield at Cameron and Herr Streets in Harrisburg, Pa. The expansion will result in at least 86 new jobs in Harrisburg over the next three years and retain 68 employees.
Advanced Communications is a commercial lithographic offset printing company founded in Harrisburg in 1996. The company currently operates five mid-sized press lines, serving a customer base comprised of businesses and institutions in the mid-Atlantic region.
“Advanced Communications is very excited to put this brownfield industrial site back into productive use after 34 years of idleness,” said David Dodd, president of Advanced Communications.
The company’s new facility will have space available for lease to other tenants. Advanced Communications also will equip the plant with $3 million in new press lines and related equipment. The total cost of this project will be $28 million.
Pennsylvania economic development officials have approved more than $6.79 million in financing, which include a $1,442,000 financial package through the Governor’s Action Team, $5 million through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), and $350,000 through the Growing Greener II program.
RACP, a vital part of the Governor’s economic stimulus package, is a commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic and historical improvement projects. Since February 2003, there have been 287 RACP projects announced throughout the commonwealth since 2003 totaling more than $859 million.
The Growing Greener II referendum authorizes the commonwealth to incur debt of up to $625 million for the maintenance and protection of the environment, open space and farmland preservation, watershed protection, abandoned mine reclamation, acid mine drainage remediation, community redevelopment and other environmental initiatives.
