Gestamp US HardTech Announces $74 Million Facility Expansion in Mason, Michigan

MASON, Mich. (August 24, 2006) — The state of Michigan approved a Single Business Tax credit valued at more than $2.5 million over 15 years.

Gestamp US HardTech Inc. plans to invest $74 million to expand its operations in Mason, including the manufacture of a new line of safety products. The project will create 348 new jobs, including 150 directly by the company.

The MEDC approved a Single Business Tax credit valued at more than $2.5 million over 15 years. The city of Mason has proposed a 12-year tax abatement valued at $7.8 million to support the project.

“Our company has been in Michigan since 1997 and found the state and local level cooperation excellent,” said Sten Sjoberg, president of Gestamp US HardTech. “We are happy about this outcome and are looking forward to continue the growth in Michigan. The level of skills from our work force has provided for the continuous development of our company and enabled the next step we are now taking.”

Gestamp US HardTech develops, manufactures and markets safety and structural components for the automotive industry. In 1998, US HardTech began production in the United States under Swedish Steel AB. The HardTech division was purchased by Madrid, Spain-based Gestamp Automocion in 2005. Gestamp US HardTech currently employs more than 170 at its Mason facility.
