Van Merksteijn will invest 40 million euro in a new manufacturing plant in Overpelt, Belgium, which will employ 60 workers initially.

Van Merksteijn BV is a manufacturer of steel mesh reinforcement, wire products and fencing. In addition, there is a special division, which concentrates on steel coating. The new Belgian subsidiary, van Merksteijn Specials will initially process 100,000 tons of steel annually, to produce 5,600 miles of fences.

Van Merksteijn has bought 31 acres of land from Umicore and has an option on another piece of land of the same size.

The company needed a canal-bound site with a sufficient size and quickly found what it was looking for in the northwest of the Meuse Rhine Triangle, which has large reserves of industrial land.
